Edward Chancellor examines the nature of speculation--from medieval Europe to the Tulip mania of the 1630s to today's Internet stock craze. A contributing writer to The Financial Times and The Economist, looks at both the psychological and economic forces that drive people to "bet" their money in markets; how markets are made, unmade, and manipulated; and who wins when speculation runs rampant. Drawing colorfully on the words of such speculators as Sir Isaac Newton, Daniel Defoe, Ivan Boesky, and Hillary Rodham Clinton,Devil Take the Hindmost is part history, part social science, and purely illuminating: an erudite and hugely entertaining book that is more timely today than ever before.

This book was recommended by Don Miller as one to grow on, as a trader this book shows the pyschological correlation between trading and playing Poker, many of the same concepts and rules apply to both professions. An underlining theme of both professions is to view things as a whole, each individual trade/poker hand is only one event in a larger Sample size and therefore we must Not overact to any single outcome. This is a great book and I would recommend it to anyone looking to enter a profession that is based on odds.

Currently reading and so far so good Trading psychology is just as important as money management and is the key to success as a trader, as a student of Mark Douglass i couldn't wait to get into this book. Ok i finished the book and i must say it is very insightful and many good techniques and key talking points, i found myself stopping to journal concept very often, A must read for anyone looking to enhance themselves. My criticism lies with the length, there were a few unnecessary chapters and many ideas that were simply ideas, No results and No solutions. Brett comes off as a smart ass at times and can actually be discouraging! Overall I rank this book as one of the best on the subject.

The names says it all, this is a good reference book for beginners and professional alike. The book covers every pattern that one can imagine, but for this reason its uses can be limited as the information is too overwhelming and doesn't really get to the heart of trading. But still a great book to have on your shelf
